On February 3, 2010, the voters of Alameda defeated Measure B, casting nearly 85% of their ballots against a SunCal proposed initiative for development of 918 acres at Alameda Point.
Since base closure in 1997, the City has been committed to redeveloping Alameda Point and implementing the necessary steps to facilitate prompt conveyance of the Naval base to the City. The City remains confident that numerous options - public, private and non-profit - remain available to the City in developing a physically viable and economically sustainable plan for base development.
An Exclusive Negotiation Agreement (ENA) between the City and SunCal remains in effect until July 20, 2010. The City shall continue in its negotiations, striving to achieve a business agreement that is economically viable and sustainable for Alameda.
On January 15, 2010, SunCal submitted an Optional Entitlement Application as permitted by the ENA. The City has reviewed this Application for compliance with the ENA, as well as the City’s Charter and existing municipal code, and issued SunCal a Notice of Default as of February 5, 2010. SunCal has 30 days under the ENA to cure such default.
The Optional Entitlement Application and Notice of Default, the contents of which are public documents, are on file at the City’s Community Development Department, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, Room 120, (510) 747-6850. For more information, please contact Jennifer Ott, Redevelopment Manager, at (510) 749-5800.
