"This is a landmark project for Alameda, the result of several years of hard work. I hope everyone will come out to enjoy the Historic Theatre and see how well the new screens have been integrated into the whole. And, of course, there's plenty of parking in the new Alameda Civic Center Garage around the corner," said Alameda Mayor Beverly Johnson.
Grand Opening Gala Fundraiser Wednesday, May 21
May 14, 2008; We're sorry, this event has sold out and no tickets remain available.
On Wednesday, May 21, the City of Alameda and Alameda Entertainment Associates will jointly host a Grand Opening Gala fundraiser (Black Tie optional). Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used for the restoration of an original, mezzanine-level, Art Deco mural and refurbishment of the original, hand-painted Theatre curtain panels.
The Gala will give attendees a sneak preview of the entire Theatre complex, including the restored Historic 1932 Theatre, returned to its original gilded splendor, and the new, adjoining seven-screen cineplex. Gala tickets are priced at $100 each and are available at Bank of Alameda's 1416 Park Street headquarters in Alameda and online.
Gala attendees will enter the Historic Theatre on a red carpet underneath searchlights scanning the night sky. Free parking for the event will be provided in the City's new Civic Center Garage located around the corner at 1416 Oak Street.
Hors d'oeuvres by Asena Restaurant and a keepsake portrait photo taken that night are part of the festivities. Entertainment will include Alameda resident Jeff Raz of Cirque du Soleil fame acting as Master of Ceremonies and live music throughout the night. Local guitarist Terrence Brewer is in the musical lineup along with the Jim Franz-Jan Nichol Band. Additional entertainers are being confirmed.
The evening's finale will also include a showing of coming attractions on the Historic Theatre's screen, one of the largest in Northern California and equipped with a state-of-the-art digital sound system.
