Protecting the Planet
The Earth Day event will focus on the importance of protecting the planet by saving natural resources, conserving energy, and learning about Earth-friendly activities. Today, Alameda residents recycle more than just bottles, cans, and paper; they also recycle household batteries, fluorescent lamps, and food scraps. Around town, many drive hybrid vehicles, go online to calculate a carbon footprint, wear fleece clothing made from recycled plastic bottles, and use compact fluorescent bulbs.
Booths - Music - Games - Prizes
Earth Day is designed as an opportunity for residents to discover new information regarding alternative transportation, healthy products, and ideas for sustainable living while enjoying musical entertainment, games, and a chance to win prizes. Local business associations and groups will line the park in festive fashion with a variety of booths, both informational and interactive. This eco-friendly community event draws more than 3,000 visitors from Alameda and the surrounding area.
Why not walk or bike to the event?
In keeping with the spirit of the Earth Day Festival, please consider walking or bicycling to the event. Bike Alameda is encouraging bicycling as a convenient and safe form of transportation in and around the island and will provide free safe and secure valet service for bikes and strollers. Additionally, Washington Park is accessible by AC Transit, and free parking will be available at Robert Crown Memorial parking lot.
